Botanic Art Classes - 7 weeks -  Starting 17 October

Tuesday 10am-12pm - Kensington

Wednesday 7.30-9.30pm - Kensington

Suitable both for beginners and returning students.  Two different programs are run for each group. 

Beginners

Tutor:  Jessie Rose Ford

  • You will be introduced to pen, ink, pencil & watercolour to explore technique and developing your own personal style. Drawing and painting from nature. 

 
  • Drawing plants in: pencil - outline, tonal rendering, transferring from tracing paper to water colour paper. Basic botany: flower and leaf structures etc.
  • Introduction to watercolour: mixing colours, applying washes & dry brush. Composition.

After sampling basic techniques, students are encouraged to work on completing a painting of a subject of their choice.

Returning students

  • This class has been developed to flow on from the Beginner Class, and for those that have some previous experience.
  • Emphasis is on building confidence, technique, exploration of materials and an ongoing development of the student's individual projects. A degree 
of working independently is required. Each student can work at their own pace and particular needs are addressed via direct tutoring, although group exercises can be conducted as well. 
  • This is an ongoing class that runs for 7 weeks, every school term, so students can continue throughout the year.

Botanical Art need not be intimidating; it is an inspiring and engaging art practice where with each subject comes the opportunity to gain a greater sense of understanding and appreciation of it.

In this seven week course you will be guided in an encouraging atmosphere through the fundamentals of botanical art. Areas of focus will include materials, drawing, shading, watercolour painting and brush techniques, along with helping to develop and hone your observational skills.

Jessie Rose Ford specialises in floral and botanical art. She is a professional exhibiting artist whose work has most recently received a Highly Commended Award from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne.

Contemporary Watercolour 1-Day Workshop

Date: 20 August 2017

Don't be intimidated by watercolour any longer! Watercolour is a fun and flexible medium with many contemporary applications. Learn how to use the materials on their own and with other mediums such as pencil, ink, masking fluid and salt!

You will learn the process of creating a watercolour painting / illustration and explore the use of the watercolour palette - which brushes, how much water and what washes to start with, as well as learning new techniques using other mediums.

The step-by-step approach of the course creates a relaxed environment with no pressure and surprising results. You will go home with several completed paintings!

Botanic Art    1 - Day Workshop

Date: 29 October 2017

For those that can't commit to weekly classes or live to far away this is an opportunity to be introduced to Botanic Art.

This intensive 1-day course is an introduction to botanic art via pencil, watercolour, pen and ink.
Students will begin to develop skills in outline drawing, tonal work and rendering of surfaces, basic colour work and paint application. Focus is on learning Botanic technical skills and working with watercolour.
This course is suitable for absolute beginners and students with some prior experience, who would like to further increase their skills.

Materials will be supplied although students are welcome to bring their own materials. Coffee and Tee is available but please take your own lunches. Cafe's are nearby if you would like to buy your lunch.

Contemporary Watercolour Classes with Stefan Gevers

Beginners Class - 7 weeks

Dates: Tuesday evening 7 - 9pm -  Kensington starting 17 October

            Friday morning 10 - 12 - Kensington starting 20 October

Watercolour is a fun and flexible medium with many contemporary applications like allowing the water-based medium to 'take over' and leading you into unexpected places. Learn how to use the materials on their own and with other mediums such as pencil, ink and masking fluid.

Beginners will learn the process of creating a watercolour painting  and explore the use of the watercolour palette - which brushes, how much water and what washes to start with, as well as learning new techniques using other mediums. Several works will be completed during the classes.

Mentored or returning students can work on their own projects while being guided by Stefan or work on program set by Stefan to teach you more advanced skills.

The step-by-step approach of the course creates a relaxed environment with no pressure and surprising results.

Watercolour Landscapes  -  2 evenings

Dates:  11 & 18 September

Tutor: Stefan Gevers  

This a specialized course of two evenings only focusing on painting landscapes with a contemporary twist. You will learn about how to sketch your drawing, using perspective, colour and tones to create your own watercolour landscape.

You will learn the process of creating a watercolour painting / illustration and explore the use of the watercolour palette - which brushes, how much water and what washes to start with. How to make a great sky or paint trees.

The step-by-step approach of the course creates a relaxed environment with no pressure and surprising results. This course is suitable for beginners but in particular those with some experience wanting to learn more about creating landscapes with watercolour.

For students who have completed the first landscape course there will be a follow up program in which you will be taught new and advanced skills.

Canberra Watercolour workshops!

On 21 & 22 October I will be returning to Canberra to run 2 One Day workshops. A Contemporary workshop and Landscape this time.

Terms & Conditions

WITHDRAWALS If you need to withdraw from a course, you are required to give at least 7 working days notice prior to the start date of the course. Booking fees can not be refunded. No refunds, transfers or credit notes will be issued for withdrawals when less than 7 working days notice is given.
